With your donation, you help Halifax Meals on Wheels continue a program which has been in operation for more than 50 years. Donations to Halifax Meals on Wheels enable us to provide even more meals to those in our community who are in need.
As the demand for our services has increased, so have the challenges and cost of providing a reliable meal service for those needing assistance.
- 29% of Nova Scotians were living in food insecure households in 2022, equating to 213,000 people!
- There has been a 20% increase in food bank usage since 2010, with over 24,000 people using food banks per month. Another 94,000 meals are served through soup kitchens and meal programs every month.
- Nova Scotia is currently on of the least food secure province in Canada, with less than 70% reporting food security.
- Single parent families are hardest hit, with only 48% being food secure.
- Nationally over 39% of children in Canada live in food insecure households.
- Meals on Wheels has seen our yearly deliveries grow from 14,000 in 2021, to over 17,000 in 2023, to a projected 25,000 for 2024.
These statistics are shocking but with your help and support, Halifax Meals on Wheels will continue to make a difference. Donate Your Car
Donate a Car Canada accepts Vehicle Donations for the Halifax Meals on Wheels. Free towing is provided in most areas across Canada, or you can drop off your vehicle to maximize your donation. When you donate your car, truck, RV, boat, or motorcycle to the Halifax Meals on Wheels through Donate A Car Canada, it will either be recycled or sold at auction (depending on its condition, age and location). Donate a Car Canada will look after all the details to make it easy for the Halifax Meals on Wheels to benefit. In addition to the benefits of regular, nutritious meals Halifax Meals on Wheels also provides:
- Regular social contact and interaction with our volunteers
- An opportunity to maintain and regain independence in your own home
- Relief to primary caregivers who, rather than preparing meals, can attend to other tasks or take time for themselves
- Comfort for non-live-in family and friends, knowing that their loved ones are provided with regular, nutritious meals and a caring connection
- A sense of well-being in knowing that our community is working together to ensure that our clients are well cared for
